Plagiarism Policy
Introduction
The Journal of Indonesian Digital Islamic Studies enforces a rigorous anti-plagiarism policy to safeguard the integrity, originality, and credibility of all scholarly work it publishes. The journal is firmly committed to disseminating original research that adheres to the highest standards of academic integrity and publication ethics. This policy outlines the journal’s stance on plagiarism, the tools used to detect it, and the procedures for addressing suspected cases. By submitting a manuscript, authors formally affirm that their work is original and free from any form of plagiarism.
Definition
Plagiarism refers to the unauthorized use, reproduction, or misrepresentation of another individual’s ideas, expressions, data, or creative work without appropriate acknowledgment. This includes, but is not limited to, the following practices:
-
Verbatim reproduction of text, phrases, or substantial content without quotation marks and proper citation.
-
Close paraphrasing of another author’s work without adequate attribution.
-
Reproduction of figures, tables, datasets, or empirical findings from external sources without proper citation or permission.
-
Presenting existing ideas, analyses, or theoretical frameworks as original intellectual contributions.
-
Self-plagiarism is defined as the reuse of substantial portions of one’s previously published work without explicit citation or scholarly justification.
Plagiarism in any form constitutes a serious breach of academic ethics and is strictly prohibited. Authors are required to provide appropriate acknowledgment of all sources and intellectual contributions referenced in their submissions.
Policy Guidelines
-
Plagiarism Screening
All manuscripts submitted to the journal undergo plagiarism screening before peer review. -
Detection Tool
The journal uses Turnitin, a widely recognized plagiarism-detection system, to assess textual similarity. -
Similarity Threshold
Manuscripts with an overall similarity index exceeding 20% will be subject to further editorial scrutiny. The editorial team recognizes that similarity scores must be interpreted contextually and do not, in isolation, constitute evidence of plagiarism. -
Exclusions from Analysis
To ensure accuracy, the similarity assessment excludes reference lists and properly formatted quotations (enclosed in quotation marks and accompanied by appropriate citations). -
Consequences of Plagiarism
-
Pre-Publication: If plagiarism is identified prior to publication, the manuscript will be rejected. The corresponding author will be notified, and in cases of severe or deliberate misconduct, the authors’ affiliated institutions may also be informed.
-
Post-Publication: If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the journal will initiate a formal investigation. Upon confirmation, the article will be retracted and a public retraction notice will be issued. The authors’ institutions will be notified accordingly.
-
The journal reserves the right to impose additional sanctions proportionate to the severity and scope of the ethical violation.
Implementation Procedures
-
Initial Screening
Upon submission, the editorial office conducts a plagiarism check using Turnitin and generates a similarity report. -
Editorial Assessment
Editors carefully evaluate each report. A high similarity score does not automatically indicate plagiarism; editors are responsible for distinguishing between unethical practices and acceptable academic conventions (such as standardized methodological descriptions or properly cited material). -
Author Responsibility
Authors bear full responsibility for the originality of their submissions and for ensuring accurate citation of all referenced materials. Written permission must be obtained for the use of any copyrighted content. -
Handling Allegations
In cases of suspected plagiarism, the journal follows established ethical guidelines to investigate and resolve the matter. Authors will be allowed to respond to any allegations. -
Transparency and Communication
The journal is committed to transparency in its plagiarism detection and resolution processes. Authors may contact the editorial office for clarification regarding procedural matters. -
Ongoing Policy Review
To remain aligned with evolving standards in academic publishing, this policy and its implementation procedures are subject to periodic review and revision.
